~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Timepiece
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I see a face, its ringed with gold
It's all that's left for me to hold
I wear it to remind me
his memories still find me

More a 'do'er than a 'thinker'
clocks and watches were his tinker
pleasure came from simple things
to free a cog, adjust a spring
He always knew how precious time can be

His hair once red, turned grey, then white
unsteady hands and failing sight
where once was strong and bold
came withered, weak and old

He asked for nothing, that's all he had
his final years too brief, too sad
I knew so little of his life
and less about my mom, his wife
It taught me just how precious time can be

I wear his watch, don't miss a day
and when the hours slip away
I look and see the faces
that time and age replaces

I promise that I'll find the time
to give to those who's life meets mine
the love that I missed out upon
when I became an orphan son
and tell them all how precious time can be

Graham

The only criticism I can say is you didn’t post this one in the open forum to watch it get the recognition it deserves.

Well done!

Graham,

What a wonderful poem this is.
It's obvious that you are quite talented and have insight into things that are so close to a heart, even a sad one.

Thank you for posting this.. It's a keeper!

and back to the top it goes..

can't help it..
can anyone find a flaw??

I can't.. (smile)
and I really really tried.. ..

Wonderful every "time" i read it.

Such wonder there is in the love of a child for his father.. unconditional it should be , but ..

it's not always what we hoped it would be . is it?

Nevertheless, it's still love.

Even unfulfilled love or ..un-returned love...
doesn't make "your" love any less does it?
(sorry that just kinda slipped out)

but it is a question.....

In the words of the great Wizard of Oz..

" We are not judged by how much "we" love,
but how much we are "loved" by others.

I'm not so sure I believe that anymore...
as much as I wanted to...(as far as my father was concerned)

But, recently, someone has made me start believing again.. and.. and..
I finally realize the meaning of "joy" and
"love" and ..and.. sorry poets..

when I figure a way to put it into words I will let you know.. hahahha

So for now.. I'll just keep on loving because.. the more I do.. it's starting to come back... more than any dream I could imagine or write about..

now THAT'S... worth writing about.. hahah
(see the double edged sword?).. hehe

Must be what that guy was thinking when he wrote.. how do i love thee let me count the ways..... (now we have computers... watch out!!!).... my hard drive is about to crash.!!@! (very unpoetic). but true..

love love.. don't give up on it ...
I never have...(but I wanted to)

WOW..I hardly know where to start,
except to say....

My words were true...that's me in there.

But you showed even more honesty in your words!
Please 'do' write about it,
when the words find you.
I'd like to see those words.

Thank you for a very special response

well you could say.. you'll post more often..... (hint, hint).

Don't keep us all waiting in suspense and anticipation (although I do enjoy both those things.. hahah)

Keep it up.. !
