My Friend

Friday night getting ready looking forward to fun
Meeting in town a must since late teen days, eight thirty
Many years now passed eye candy not for brittle teeth
Embarrass the grandchildren you say who cares say we
The sixties until today we know the moves the tunes
Bellies pulled in who you kidding grandad young ones say
Friday night November short sleeve shirts on Blackpool front
Sandstorm raging, we don’t care cooler than cool were we
Double vodka for the road crooked house our abode
Kebab me chicken you mushy peas taste just like glue
Bank holiday night out coming soon, or so I thought
That message one August morn that my best friend had gone
Tears that well a man holds back but not this time, my friend
Vacancy within my heart until the next round ….My Friend.
In memory of Dave Tobin 1950-2017
You will be missed my friend

Sounds like a true friend that stood the test of time.  We should all be so lucky.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you.

Blessings Michelmas...

No better friend than an honorable one. In his passing, he's now yours for life.

One ladle serves the soup that feeds the mouths of the many.

He has never passed, only out of sight, as long as he's alive in your heart, my friend.

Wonderful tribute...

Thanks for your comments. The funeral was yesterday with an amazing (sad) turnout. Certainly this poem should be entitled Our Friend and not just My Friend
