Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2017-08-09 07:37 AM

The morning is so quiet.
I can hear Winston
breathing deep in sleep
on the sofa
and the soft whir
of the laptop’s fan.
The coffeepot makes
an occasional hiss.
The refrigerator kicks on
with a hum that drowns out
the little sounds
with its big white noise.
I feel contained within
my circle of quiet,
cozy and warm.
My day is not yet
pulling me this way or that.
With nowhere to be
later this morning,
I dabble in drowsy
to see where it takes me.
It has only gotten me
as far as a yawn or two.
But it is still early.
Hard telling what I’ll do.
Winston looks irresistible,
I might just have to
give him a belly rub and kisses.
The porch is also calling
to come listen to the sounds
before the birds start
their caterwauling.
But the hold the chair has on me
is mighty strong,
keeping me most content
to just sit and sip my coffee.
Right now at this very moment
it feels pretty good to just be me.
So I’ll be thanking God
for that emotion
I’ll be wallowing in for a while.
Keeping in mind
I’ve been waiting a long time
to start to feel this way again.
I can’t be bothered with
how far down I’ve gotten
or how many steps back up
to the top.
All that matters is that
things have turned around,
the spiral is reversed.
Each step is an elevation
in feelings of self-worth.
I do not begrudge
three-thirty in the morning
when it brings me to a place
where I can feel like this.

I understand. In the early mornings when all is quiet, that's when it soothes you,

~ If they give you ruled paper, write sideways. ~

Yes Jerry,
and in that quiet I believe I feel the subtle beginnings of getting better. I don't care how or why, it just is and I'm grateful.

That's good, and may there be more mornings as relaxed as that one.

Hey Pinkingduck,
Thanks so much for your generous praise. If you don't mind, I believe I will take that to the bank. ~L

Wonderful to read...I don't necessarily like it if I'm comfortable on my sofa and the refrigerator kicks in...it seems to be reminding me to buy a newer energy saving model...I guess the alternative is hot and spoiled food...james
