Fair to middlin' of nowhere

Up before the birds
and on the porch
with my coffee
listening to the dark.
The crickets’ chirping
sounds half asleep.
A far away hoot owl
calls from under its covers.
The night time players
are calling it a day
as they snuggle into
dens dry from dew
and last night’s rain.
Sleep is heavy in the air
even as dawn approaches.
But soon little heads
will appear from under wings
and wake to greet the day.
Each will raise its voice
to sing the sun to rise.
Oh so gentle the morning
lies wrapped in its dark cloak
that it tugs softly at my eyelids.
I seek out my chair and blanket
and cuddle back into oblivion.
I sleep until nine,
waking to an overcast sky
that is as groggy as I am.

Lori, you write your poems in living color.  Wonderful snapshot of your morning.

Blues said it best. Your morning interludes with that cuppa joe and all the sounds is pure Lori.

Thanks Blues,
I haven't the patience to paint or draw a still life or landscape and I'm no photographer, but I do seem to get words to cooperate often as not. Thank you for being a fan of my "art". ~L

Jerry,
Thanks for the compliment! Nice to know I'd be recognized if scrawled on a wall in certain places. ~L

Pinkamist,
Thank you for being a supporter of my work.  I'm always happy to hear when it is easy on the eyes. ~L
