Used to be when we'd disagree
We would compromise you and me.
If I disagree now you attack
You'd like to have me on the rack.

Whatever happened to taking time
To give and take, not thinking it’s a crime
To have different views, you and I
We're both just ordinary guys.

With wild rhetoric truth is hard to find
And you'll go your way, and I'll go mine
I say, you say, and I'm right you're wrong
It's the same old lackluster song.

People are buying guns and ammo
Government's tried stopping its flow
Liberals, conservatives have beliefs
Why give each other so much grief.

Take time, listen to each other
You could be talking to your brother
Eye to eye we may never see
But by listening we may find the key.

These days we just try to outshout
Again rhetoric leaves so much doubt
And its so loud we can't hear a word
Its really pitiful and absurd.

Let's go back to the honest debates
If not I have great fear for our fate
If we can't take time to listen soon
It won't be long before its high noon.

Good points made here Jerry, but oft in vain. It's Man's nature to war against himself, if not in the fields of foreign lands, then in the streets of our cities...even in our own households.

If only all of us could follow your simple admonishment:
quote:
"Take time, listen to each other, you could be talking to your brother. Eye to eye we may never see, but by listening we may find the key".
Very well said indeed.

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.

Thank you, Ari, but like you said I fear it is all in vain, human nature being such as it is. Eh . . . So be it.

I too am tired of the lack of civility and cooperation. Enjoyed your post.

Work like money doesn't matter, love like you've never been hurt, dance like nobody's watching...

Ahhh . . Civility has been lost, and it will never come back, I fear, HM3 . . . Thank you for stopping by.

Yes! listening is so less stressful, I don't know why people find that so hard to do. Come noon. if we all draw our weapons, soon there will be one left in the human race.

Like an early Dylan tune, "The Times They Are A Changin'".

Good poetry JerryPat and also a good statement on what many of those 'changes' are.

...just bein' Bluesy

Thanks, Bluesy. If things keep changing at the rate they have been for the last few decades I fear for our survival worldwide, not just here.
