Fair to middlin' of nowhere

The sunrise this morning
was spectacular!
A pink peach sky reflecting
off of blue edged altocumulus clouds
that are being overtaken by a wave
of a matching stratus.
Each object touched by the sunlight
radiates the vibrant color.
As the sun rises higher in the sky,
The pinks and blues morph
into brilliant white edges on golden clouds.
After what seems like endless mornings
of rain and gray and predawn darkness,
the sunrise this morning is a celebration.

"altocumulus?" Okay, I looked it up, smarty.

Loved your celebration of your happy morning; may you have many more.

I had to look it up too, Jerry. They were very distinctive clouds and I wanted to know what to call them. ~L

Yeah, the cumulus, of course I understood, but it was the "alto" that had me going around in circles. From now on whenever I see those kind of clouds making up I will think back to this poem, the word and you for giving me the name of them. Cool.

Lovely images and observations Lori Rhoden. Some look up and see only sky.

I'm very fond of clouds. There's always something to see in them...colors, shapes. your in-laws...etc.

Phineas,
I'm fond of finding shapes in the clouds myself. I drive south on a 6 mile stretch of blacktop lined with wheat fields and the treeline that follows a river. Every morning on my way to work I have a wide open view of the sunrise. They have inspired many a poem.

I see you mentioned "shapes and "clouds", Lori Rhoden...but conspicuously left out the "in-laws".

Maybe I should have too.

Lori you paint such a lovely picture ~ Definitely a sunrise to celebrate! It's always such a fun past time to find objects in the clouds. Loved doing that since I was a little girl ~ Much enjoyed the read ~ Alana

I live in the Houston, Texas metroplex - we seldom see beautiful sunrises or sunsets - jealous of you I am. Especially when i have memories of Arizona and Calif. skies...
