Old Man River
By Paul Wilson

Old Man River keeps rolling on
Never stopping from dusk till dawn
Untold lives lost over the years
Millions of dreams replaced by tears

For years man has made a living
Working up and down the river
Battles have been fought tween it’s banks
Lives were lost to Old Man River

Nutrient rich water helped the farmer
Grow his crops to feed all mankind
Rain turned Old Man River into
A monster to our fate resigned

Progress made it’s mark long ago
Cities popped up all along it’s banks
Ships turned Old Man River brown
No one ever stopped to give thanks

In the North the rain came day after day
Flowing South the river flooded everything in it’s path
People in the North flooded out
Nothing left in the aftermath

A thousand years of water flowing South
A thousand years of blood sweat and tears
A thousand years of history made
I hope it’s still here in another thousand years

If Old Man River could talk
The stories that could be told
History tells her story for us
I wonder if Old Man River has a soul

Very nice, my friend, and so right.

You know, after all those years of flowing  -
how much water you thing as passed the mouth of the Mississippi and passed on into the gulf.

Just too much to comprehend, huh.

enjoyed . . . j.

I would definitely say yes, he has a soul.  Does make you wonder what his viewpoint on the floods might be.  Gentle reminders of who is in control?  Necessary purging?

No matter what, what humanity has down to our rivers and oceans is downright shameful.

I believe the planet has a soul and your river is just part of the whole.

Paul - Of course Old Man River has a soul and you've just wonderfully revealed it. Thanks a lot for the peek! Namyh
