When I spoke my soul mate's name, Do-ro-thy,
The last syllable sounds like a prayer . . . thee.
Pre-Dorothy, I was sad and alone,
I was disappointed, down to the bone.

Even her nickname, Dottie, was sublime
And when she says Jerry, my heart did climb.
They say there is someone for every soul,
I believe they are right, she made me whole.

I met her on Cleveland Street, New Orleans,
She turned out to be a New Orleans' Queen.
After taking one look at this sad sack,
She had to think that I was out of whack.

The Cleveland Street Bar, just one more stop,
Trying to be cool, doo-wah-diddy-hop.
Dorothy saw right through me, her smile said so,
Penetrated my sham cool, made me glow.

That was the start of our life together,
She found something she liked in this old cur.
All these-years later she's still a dear,
My love, my life, throughout all of those years.

If it were possible to never die,
I could never tire of her gentle sighs.
Though I am but clay and with many flaws,
I am so happy she saw what she saw.

Indeed it does, Jerry.
It's good for you to remember her this way.
You honor her with each word and "syllable".

Take care of yourself.

I'm glad you remember her that way and there are embers of your love left with which you can still warm yourself. ~L

and this gives a whole new meaning to soul mate and reasons why we must keep searching for that one special soul that loves us for who we are....

To have someone see us, flaws and all... and accept all that they see... that's a special gift. And you've written a beautiful tribute to the one who gave you such acceptance. Well done!

Jerry...I definitely can relate to this. I met my current wife of 50 years this August in a little lounge in Buras, La. where she worked. She changed my life forever and I'm afraid I might soon lose her to a terrible illness.
Enjoyed my friend...Paul
