A Little Piece of Hawaiian Land

She stood pleasantly by the road
to sell her fresh mangoes
and papaya's and banana's,
even local grown avocado's
and kiwi's;
she was willing to lower
her price a bit
if she knew the buyer was needy
and it seemed like there was
a lot of that going around lately;
she was known to trade some fresh mangoes
or papaya's for some fresh fish
caught that morning by a local fisherman;
later she would cook that for lunch or dinner,
enough to feed her family of five,
of grandma, herself and three small keiki's,
thankful that a few local fishermen
were looking out for all of them;
making sure the local fish
filled the bellies
of those that lived in this small
but happy North Shore town.

Thank God!
That was one thing they had a lot of,
this little piece of Hawaiian land
to grow fresh fruit upon...

I'm not as needy as the young one in your story James, but I've always enjoyed bartering. Everybody wins.
