Overheating
By: Nadia Lockheart
2/26/18
.
.
You flashed a longing glance,
in the heat of a Friday night...
.
.
then, so as to not be noticed,
looked down bashful and mortified...
.
.
...and you must have picked up on,
my scurry look away...
.
.
...sharing this expressive silence,
praying it will translate...
.
.
...but my heart switches up,
I'm losing coordination,
worried the foundation,
of our bond would break,
if I came off too strong,
and my pulse starts to quicken,
as you mouth all you'd like to say...
.
.
.
Overheating...

...you can't steady your hands,
I feel my stomach cramp,
overheating...

...staring into your eyes,
can't you tell that I'm,

...overheating...

...you can't steady your hands,
I feel my stomach cramp,
overheating...

...staring into my eyes,
begging for a vital sign,

overheating...

...overheating...
.
.
.
There's no grasping long division,
with this math of the heart...
.
.
...moments like these don't happen twice,
slicing the night like falling stars...
.
.
...writhing and clutching,
invisibly where we are...
.
.
...but my heart switches up,
in this sweet desperation,
we find faint consolation,
in the frenzied borderline,
of an ecstatic free fall,
and an involuntary goodbye...
.
.
.
Overheating...

...you can't steady your hands,
I feel my stomach cramp,
overheating...

...staring into your eyes,
can't you tell that I'm,

...overheating...

...you can't steady your hands,
I feel my stomach cramp,
overheating...

...staring into my eyes,
begging for a vital sign,

overheating...

...overheating...

...overheating...
.
.
.

Wow!  Look at you writing such passionate beauty. Love seeing you here!

You know.  I've had these moments! You describe it in a way that clenched the heart beautifully. I know where you are, but I miss you being around here.

I know his hands will dig up my secrets"
