Idle

If idle hands are the devil's workshop,
Idle minds must be his abyss.
It's here I wander, inattentive,
To all in life I surely miss.
I wait 'the other shoe to drop,
I flounder in the halls of pith.
The curse of the anal-retentive,
The dry echoes I roll on with.

I listen, but there is no voice
To wake me from this listless dream.
I wait, what else?  I have no choice,
The meaning of life without theme.
But should the rotissserie fail
To turn me back to life, so quaint;
Look the the cross, but save a nail
That I might die the sacrosanct...

For shadow wails, a silent plea
That falls but to ears of the dead;
And yet the dead would share with me
It as price for the life I've led.
Deep down, I realize the cost
Is everything I once held dear.
Given time to mourn what's been lost,
Soon even that will disappear.

Till nothing's left but nothingness—
Effort alone won't open eyes;
As somewhere in that dark abyss
You come to see the devil's lies.
But you don't move, you just sit still,
As night creeps in, stealing the day.
Though you could fight, you never will;
Bleeding, idly, your life away.

We all fall into that trough of listlessnss and regret. We just need that spark of inspiration and enthusiasm to lift us out. To grasp the rose of life, thorns and all.
A topnotch poem, in my book.

Eh . . . I quite understand, Michael. I've been there, but thank goodness I somehow figured out a way to banish my demons. Hopefully, at some point you will also.

Hey, dear Michael, you are up into poetic heights of memorable intensity. Everything is in motion and so are you. The abyss is bound to transform into light ...

Redstart, I thank you for the hopeful message.  Who knows, I may even start looking up once in awhile eventually.

Hey Jer, good to see you.  You know me, either things aren't as bad as my writing makes them out to be, or I am just so used to writing this way I can't really change it...  in this case, I would say both apply.  Just felt like like trying to write, wasn't feeling down, but this is what came out.

Bel1e, ah, I was just reading your Rapunzel poem the other day and wondering how and where you've been.  Hope you're gonna post something fresh for us.  Glad to see you here.

Margherita, if I've learned anything at all here, many of my friends on this site, you included, have shown me it's a matter of perception mostly.  Trust me when I say I know it's really not that bad.

Thank you all,

Michael

I hear you Michael! Now run along and get out of my head. I was just thinking about this very same thing when I came inside to read on PiP.

You should stand against the greats, Michael,
who left life too early because they no longer cared to strive. But here you are.

Writing on.

And doing a fine job. [There are a couple of errors...but you will find them when you decide to publish.]

Love, K
