One day as I was surfing,
I was carried to a shore
Onto a lovely island
With so much to explore

At first a little timid
I hid myself from sight
And watched the natives from afar
(Afraid that they might bite!)

The great and fearless chief (Ron)
As kind as he was wise,
Stood guard off in the distance
With a vision in his eyes

I studied all their rituals
And learned to speak their tongue
So thirsty for the passion shared
Between the old and young.

Hungering to join them,
Starving to belong,
I wandered to their welcome fire
And sang their tribal song

Such emotion filled the air!
Until the day was done,
Chanting with a single voice
Thousands, though as one

And though I tend to drift away
To other foreign places,
I always float back with the tide
To these familiar faces

This island is my haven,
A home without a wall,
Where I can visit anytime
Encircled by them all!

“A home without a wall,
Our haven without ends,
A circle we all call
Our Family of Friends!”

I would confidently predict that you are not alone in your affection. A warm and generous poem.

yes, me too!  Though, it took the tide a rather long time to float me back

And though I tend to drift away
To other foreign places,
I always float back with the tide
To these familiar faces

Though a repost, it is new to me. Absolutely! This is a friendly place and we don't bite. Well, some of that has been known to happen. The Blue Room has been going through a slowing period for the past months, but I know it will rebound with poets like you to come back.

Thank-you everyone!  I wrote this and posted it here in Pip many years ago.  I have always loved this place, and the support from fellow writers here has been invaluable. I have popped in and out over the years to read others work and to check out the poetry that I posted myself here so long ago!
