the blues echoed across my mind last night
to take flight on the wings of a mourning dove's song

a slow sax blows through, up/down my soul
with caress of old sweet notes that ache low
drift to enfold, a riff across shattered nerves

how pure the melody that croons wearisome times
fills the void that lingers, crying in smoky night

soft wails, sob into lost memories of a past sun
aching sighs are laid to melancholy's rest as
future thoughts rise to shade tomorrow's dreams

I push a silver dime in mindless circles
across the scarred wooden table, and my
unseen tonic and gin floats in a puddle of ice
as gentle notes of the sax haunt the drawn-in night
to sigh a plaintive lament out the door

on the wings of a mourning dove's song
the blues echoed across my mind last night

Ink runs from the corners of my mouth
There is no happiness like mine.
I have been eating poetry.

Ahh . . . There is nothing quite like a mournful saxophone cause you to reflect backward to past situations. You brought out the best of a blues moment within the structure your melancholy poem.

Nothing quite like a night out in the city with some soulful music to drown a soul-less mood. Wonderful visionaries.

You nailed it! The mood, the sounds, the sights, the smells...the whole ball-o-wax.
excellent as appears to be per usual
