I know that my candle burned at both ends,
I was told many times I would not last.
Over this land I walked with not one friend,
Running away from myself and my past.
Yes, I had trials, heartbreak; tribulations,
Something kept me going, I knew not what,
From shore to shore I saw this great nation,
If I felt down I would stiffen my strut.
I had lovers, too many to point out,
I took from them, they from me; how it went.
No one could mistake me for a boy scout,
I could not stop, oh yes, I was hell bent.
And true my candle burned throughout the night,
Still, there were times it gave a pleasant sight.

Pretty cool sonnet dude! I hope that in these "golden years" you have finally learned how to make a friend (or two)

sounds like you too had a 'colorful' life indeed! ... I've spent most of mine tryin' to keep 'the darkness' of the Nam era at bay ...

Thanks Bruce. Wasn't in that war or another one either. Lucky I guess. I was in the military, however.

77 looks good on you
Much happiness, the darkness has been lifted years ago from what you've written

Funny about the 77, I turned 76 this month, Emma. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would live to be this old, and am still in relative good shape at that. Thank you as always, for being here.
