I turn seventy-six today
thank goodness for miracle drugs
that help me make it this far
never thought I would
almost didn’t a few times
back in the bad old days
hah! started to buy myself a birthday cake
throw myself a little party
stick candles on it
Zoe would have liked that
instead I purchased a groovy (I know dead phrase)
bottle of Oryza Vodka
made by Thibodaux’s very own
Donners and Peltiers distillery
dirty vodka martini
vodka, dry vermouth, olives (two) olive brine
I’ll start in on it
when the sun sinks in the west
and yes
I have a candle
have to have a candle
don’t ya know
I’ll light it when I take that first drink
if my one-night binge
doesn’t stop my heart
I’ll see everybody tomorrow
a friggin’ year older

Happy Birthday Jerry. Be careful with that dirty Martini. If you have any left stash it for another day. We had some Russian Male students at the school I worked at. Adult men and boy did they put a lot away.I did not even want them to go out one night as I felt they would get lost. I worked for the FAA at a management school and often had airplane   type from other countries. The Africans  bought kids toys at Walmart and tires to take home on the plane, the Russians  liquor.  I miss that job. Best to you. You are only one day older than yesterday, take heart.jo

Thank you Jo. Whew! I survived last night . . . barely. I'm feeling it today. Big time.
