Chaos rules my mind,
The harder I try, the faster I fall,
Into the trap of inconsistency,
Without a need to care in the world,
The tasks of today are forgotten,
As if I am still a child looking for attention,
Wanting to do something wrong to be known,
To be heard and felt ,a desperate ploy at my age,
Regardless of what is at the other end,
I seek only what seems like the perfect life,
No unkind words are spoken from the rest,
Only the guilt ridden thoughts surround me,
It is a long time since I have chosen a different path,
Practicality and Principals are on opposite ends,
Leaving me to feel like a ping pong ball in the middle,
When will it all subside or will it take an act of no will?
Turning over everything I feel and know,
To a cause that is greater than me,
Without any expectations, what will I cleave to at the end?

I speak insanity. I write fantasy. I sleep reality.

Good poem, dilemma/s well expressed.

What I think may help is to take each day/incident/issue one at a time and judge the best course of action for each individually. One can only do one's best. Pure extremes are seldom best. A bit like Shakespeare's last line of 'The Quality of Mercy' - 'when mercy seasons justice'. The right mix is hard to discover and most accurate if thought about on each individual occasion.
