you were a stranger
a lurking piece of my whole
back in the shadows
(and I had many shadows)
I had no time for you
like Frank (Old Blue Eyes) Sinatra
I didn't need you
wanted to do things my way
aren't we plumb stupid
in our younger years
doing things that caused
society to hang their heads in utter shame
doing it my way
or no way
yeah . . .
I'm so proud, Mr. Inner Man
you hung around
unnoticed in the shadows
waiting for a chance to walk in the sunlight
the sunlight is here now
with you beside me, giving me comfort
giving me the wherewithal
to step lightly
smile brightly
face whatever comes my way
with resolve and a smile
instead of clenched fists
saying goodbye
so long, arrivederci, to the mean street ways
those streets
full of hurricane-strong clouds
as of this writing
(and writing is what I'm about)
I say with a smile
there have never been better days in my life

A bit like coming to terms with oneself, not always liking everything you see, but understanding it all well enough to accept it...emerging from your core a better person. Not in spite of experiences, but because of them.

Touch, but don't look

You figured it all out correctly Jack, as you seem to always do. To be honest, my online friend, I never expected to find this kind of peace in this lifetime. I am grateful!

I'm very happy to know of the peace you've found Jerry. I admire humility and peace eludes us through our vanities. Letting go is letting in.

We should all be in touch with our "inner man" or "woman" as the case may be. Hope and the ability to cope are the gifts that are held by them. Great, inspiring poetry Jerry.

Loving Linny Jean is poetry.

Your inner man has really blossomed over the last few years.  Does my heart good not to hear you in so much anguish. And the pain you write about these days you seem to have a hold on rather than it having a hold on you. Had you chosen differently, you could be drinking from a very bitter cup. Here is to you my friend! ~L
