Fair to middlin' of nowhere

In the early summer morning
when birds are stirring before daylight
and the air is still and heavy with dew,
it feels as if the day is still deep asleep
waiting for the coffee to brew.
Bare feet tread quietly to the door
to let the paws out to do their business.
The nightshift comes purring in
ready for a taste of milk and Friskies.
A mission accomplished scratch at the door
allows entry back into bed and breakfast inn.
The house is cool and quiet
except for the sound of toenails
tapping across the kitchen floor.
And from a distant bedroom comes
a soft and even snore.
A gentle rustle comes from a hideaway
beneath the bathroom sink
where the nightshift catches her forty winks.
A tinkle then contented sigh
from the living room
means the paws made his leap
up onto the sofa with success.
The sun rises unrelenting
with its heat.
I take refuge in my favorite reclining seat,
dozing with the rest.
Another lazy day
spent hiding away.

Hide, hide, hiding away . . . A song wasn't it? It is lazy here in the swamp also. With the humidity factor we are at 101 degrees as I type. Too hot, and it isn't even August, the hottest month of the year.

Cool wishes to you Lori, I'm tucked away much
the same in cali heats..

Enjoyed the trickle of word-play today,

With the heat index today it is 109 and still climbing. Glad I got my walk in early!

Devina!
How good to hear from you! I think we topped out at around 114 with the heat index yesterday.  Today we have pink skies and thunder...no rain yet... keeping my fingers crossed.  ~L
