Fair to middlin' of nowhere

I’ve always had a weakness
for silver-haired gents.
Stylish and European,
He was all but irresistible.
A portly gentleman down on his luck,
Winston was recently incarcerated
due to circumstances
beyond his control.
Our meeting
was quite by chance
and I had no intention
of romance…
But I cannot deny our connection,
two old souls
needing a little something
only the other had to give.
I brought him into my heart
and home…
It was as if we had
been together forever.
When he looks at me
with his deep dark eyes
I melt into his bidding.
Now, if I told you
Winston is an old Schnauzer
would you think
I’ve got to be kidding?

Winston is my new best friend. We are going to be walking buddies as soon as this heat wave passes. We are both overweight and on a diet. He is 10 yrs old. (I wasn't ready for a long term relationship) This is the first time I have had a dog that doesn't shed! I'm spoiled!~L

Winston will, hopefully, give you a few good years, Lori. Where is his picture?

Jimmy! I'm so glad you liked this one!
FYI Our cat showed up as a stray kitten on Father's Day about 5 years ago. This year my husband got a house dog. He was a little skeptical  at first but he likes him better everyday. ~L

I KNEW it as I have just read Dog, though I was disappointed right at the beginning when I thought he was going to be a mere human, but soon saw he wasn't - and at the end, relief!

Love it!  A few months ago, I was adopted by 3 feral kittens, Shadrach, Meshach and Abigail (you can't call a little girl, Abednego!).

I am off to find JP Winston I and JP Winston II! [PS Oh, having searched, I see now that the silver-haired gentleman is JP Winston III - I thought the poem was the third in a series about JP Winston - saw your poem title 'Counting Porches' and read it at first as 'Counting Pooches' - Funny how one sees what one wants to, eh?]

Can't you put a photo of the eminent JP Winston III into Dog?

Owl,
He is a handsome fellow I must admit. I'm happy to hear I had you going there for a bit too. I will see about putting his pic up on Dog. ~L

Oh, I am certain he is a handsome fellow - all doggies are handsome or beautiful, depending on their gender - but I am sure he is particularly handsome.  I will look out for his photo on Dog.
