Dark Star Rising

Oh there’s a dark star rising
Just beyond the midnight sun.
A soulless pulse improvising
On a destiny undone.
A legacy born of ashes
Along foundations of ruin,
Where hope never quite hashes
Out the dream that died too soon.

Where each dawn marks the tomorrow
Of a world that cannot see
That it’s been eclipsed by sorrow,
Lost for all eternity.
Found in one child’s voiceless scream,
Gazing upward toward the sky;
Who’s noticed all we see and deem,
By the light, is just a lie.

So now he just stands, frozen,
Naked in the windowsill.
Doomed by fallacies chosen
Of a, once believed, free will.
Jaw hanging in gaping rictus
As he dares to look outside,
(If by the charge of Invictus,
Past the pains that coincide)…

…To a corona of dire fate,
Seemingly alive with dread;
If in some clandestine, ornate
Portrayal of the dead.
Unto shadow, synthesizing
Ambience of life misspun,
Oh yes, a dark star’s rising
Just beyond the midnight sun.

I used to live for a dark star rising, Michael, especially during my two lost decades, but even beyond. Dark and I strolled through life hand in hand and I actually believed I was living well. I have shed my dark (most of it) and I know now how debilitating it was to me. Dark. We never completely get rid of it, do we?

I can almost hear the music behind this. Perfect rhythmic structure.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Gave up trying to be rid of it a long time ago, Jer.  Kind of pointless in my case I think.  The dark star rising is representative of one who lives in such darkness as I do, yet overcomes the stigmas society is destined to place on them, reaching a level of peaceful existence within a world it could never truly be part of.

Wow, Tanya, I have not listened to many grateful dead songs in my life, but did this one since you brought it to my attention.  Very soothing music, and exceptional lyrics.  thank you, love.

Virginia, thank you for noticing that.     Made my day.
