It could have been,
it could have been,
but once too many times
you decreed
the sun fall out the sky
expecting me
to catch it yet again
but
my hands
were too burnt
and raw.

Ouch lady, you pack a wallop by small package. I wish you luck at the crossroads!

Owl, Once or twice when we chance to play with fire,it seems it sometimes leaves us scorched.
Sending aloe gel to heal the burn and love to heal your heart. (((Hugs ))) martyjo

Thank you, Martyjo, for your lovely reply - and for the aloe gel - and for the hugs.  They all did a wonderful job and have me smiling happily, as your lovely messages always, always do.

Yes, I was mesmerised by the fire, and for 11½ months, but (stupidly?) I don't regret it.  I only fell into it some of the time, and only had to catch the sun in my bare hands way less than a hundred times, and I can't forget the warmth and excitement it brought me most of the time - and so many of the memories are quiver-special and forever . . . and yes, it scarred me with third degree burns, but the scars will heal and the burnt raw hands were worth it . . .

Like another Diana (Ross not Princess), I will survive, but partly because of kind people like you.

This is almost viscous.  Knowing that isn't one of your general dispositions, Diana, I cringe to think of the motivation behind it.  Very well done though, enjoyed it in my darkly-attuned manner.

I am not sure whether you mean 'viscous' or 'vicious', but either way thank you for your kind and compassionate reply, Michael.  There were wonderful times as well as the bad, and there were some improvements on the bad, but there are things - with or without apologies - that I won't put up with, more than x number of times.

There are only so many ways we can try... only so much pain we can endure. This leaves an immense ache... very poignant!

Thank you, Ruth.  You are so right.  You always were.  But I am glad I tried for so long, until I just couldn't any more.  There were lots of good times too, though.

Thanks, Michael.  Hope you thought that it was the poem or the "him" that was vicious, and not me, lol!
