everything was perfect
our give and take
was magnificent to the nth
it was like
having wild strawberries and cream
for breakfast
there was sunlight everywhere we were
we were
we were . . . us
after awhile
it seemed we were unsure
of things
I tried too hard
made stupid mistakes
made more stupid mistakes
trying to undo the original ones
it got to where
we argued a lot
mostly about my stupid mistakes
some were hers
but most of them were mine
then we would find ourselves again
having wild strawberries and cream
for breakfast
and there was sunlight everywhere we were
for awhile
hints of unhappy endings
began to creep into our conversations
suddenly dark was upon us
we lit candles
trying for sunlight everywhere we were
the candles began to grow dim
they were trying to go out
and I
with a box full of matches
was attempting to keep them lit
as was she

And so it happens, dear Jerry. This is very intense and very well written ... Love the imagery you produced. Touching too!

Many thanks, Margherita, for your comments. Yes, I know "and so it happens."

When you notice that you're trying, you're trying too hard.  A pity.  But this describes the situation very well.  Well done.

Yes, I do know that now, Nan. But sometimes you are in a situation where, although you know in your heart you need to pull up, let things rest, but something tells you no! You must try to explain the unexplainable. Ergo, you have deepened the hole of mistrust.
