there was a time
I desired to know all
in searching for that perfect all
I failed to notice
specks of this and that
which fused together may have
given me all
then I was infatuated with
having a grand love
faultless
but I neglected the soft candle
of love’s evermore
diminutive realities and
pleading for my compassion
all my life
I have read books
many books
looking, perhaps for intelligence
instead finding
me inside the books comprehending
what I had not known
so, now I sit here
an old guy
asking for exoneration
I leave it to you who sit and judge
what needs of mine which
need this exoneration

eh . . . being who I am
I have not erred
to fall in love with this love of mine
it brings to my heart
a mending and healing
from disarray to meaning

I certainly relate to the desire to know all... felt that astonishingly strong in my youth.  Kind of shakes me to see the man I am today, knowing enough to know I don't wish to know anything more.    You ended this one very well, with a certainty of acceptance and peace some of us only long for.

Thank you so much, Michael. In my youth, buddy, I didn't care a whit about knowing all, I was too busy trying to stare down the guy elbowing me at the bar. Heh.Heh Thank you again.

I no longer need to read to gain more knowledge... I just listen to my next door neighbor, who apparently knows everything

Hah! I think we have all had that same next-door-neighbor . . . He does get around that insufferable guy!
