Fair to middlin' of nowhere

We pull out tubs of decorations,
collected Christmas conglomerations,
saved over the generations.
The old wooden sleigh
and a Santa of clay
that you can’t buy today.
Christmas books new and old,
tree skirts to unfold
and plush white snowmen to hold.
Strands and strands of light
to wrap here and hang there, delight.
An , ”Ah” to the star for the highest height.
Everywhere you see,
there is Christmas cheer and whimsy,
and of course the Nativity
Can’t forget the mistletoe!
It has a special place to go.
So people can walk under it and, well, you know…

Sounds festive around your house.

cute 'slice-of-life' Holidays 'write!' ...

the one time of year that some folks open their 'shut up' hearts to their fellow
creatures...would that it could last all year long and happen everywhere on Earth!

Jerry,
Yes, my daughter and I have outdone ourselves this year! Inside and out!

Jo,
I feel a little different this year. I think it is because the grand baby is coming to visit on Christmas Eve! That is probably why we pulled out all the stops on decorating. She will be 7 months old.

I agree 100%!  Too bad people can't keep Christmas in their hearts all year long. You make an excellent point about the animals.

Eric,
Thanks for your comment! Glad to see you back. The poem was literally based on sitting back and admiring our hard work and rewinding the process. So glad you enjoyed it.

Truly delightful, dear Lori. I am not in the mood yet, but you are right where there are children the decorations are a must. The children's eyes are always the greatest reward for any efforts.

Love,

Margherita,
I wasn't much in the mood when I started, I just knew I had that time frame to get it done in. I got in the mood as I did it. A cup of hot coaco and instrumental Xmas background music really helped!

Yes Ida, for good or ill, Christmas is all about memories.  So for all the Bah humbugs, I say, it is not about you and your bad baggage it is about the good baggage you help create for others.

Lori, I love your poem AND your comment immediately before this reply of mine.

Yes, it is about what we can do for others.  Since 2008, every year on Christmas Eve morning and afternoon, my son, as the chairman of the local sector policing forum is Father Christmas and driven around for about 4 hours in the blazing heat with a hot Father Christmas suit and a huge false Father Christmas belly in a sleigh (decorated trailer) pulled by a local security company and various police cars and security company cars and residents in the procession.  And he gives out sweets the children (of ALL ages, LOL!).  It is a huge success and the ambiance is indescribable.  The purpose is to keep building a better and better relationship between the community and the police.  It is a huge thing and preparations and municipal permission documentation starts 6 months before.  We all (well, a lot of us) play our parts in the preparation and the event on the day.  It is so bonding of all people of all ages and absolutely exhausting - especially for Father Christmas - but SO worth it for our own happiness as well as that of the community.

Nice, bet it's beautiful to see (a picture maybe?) - normally we dress up the place but not this year since I helped "my" surgeon go all out on his Christmas this year (still recuperating)so can't do much physically.  But my neighbors have theirs all up, so I have a lot to look at --- besides, it was fun "supervising" rather than "working" - Ha!

enjoyed your poem...

Owl,
I married 2 humbugs, I know where of I speak. Joyfully that is not the case now. Your son is involved in a wonderful thing and I'm sure many hearts are blessed in the process.

God speed your recovery Jimmy. I would have included a pic if I felt more comfortable with the process of posting it. Nothing lavish here by any means. I'm sure the picture in your head will do just fine. Don't imagine you smell a real tree though...I gave them up years ago. Now I have 3 very real looking artificial trees. I only put up the 2 smallest ones this year as real estate inside the house is hard to come by.

Too true Martie,
My sons' memories of Christmas decorating are not good ones.  They never wanted to do it. My daughter, on the other hand, loves to decorate. She even tolerates me being picky.
