Chance I saw her on the road today, Felt the emotions stir. A million things hidden away, All still tethered to her. She stopped her car at the red-light And glanced to her rearview, Where like a deer in the headlight I saw them hit her too. Her shaking hand the only thing Not in that moment froze, Enough to tell me everything She thinks only God knows. She turned on signal, leaned her head… I, mine too to concur, But could not follow to the dread That is speaking to her. Those feigned smiles, brief eye-contact, Always wishing me well. Careful thought in each word. Each act Itself a curse to hell Placed on my neck—the crucifix Of all we ever shared, To carry on across the Styx With a soul ever bared. Brake lights come on, ‘saw her shocked look As I just drove away. A second being all it took To turn life back to gray. I thank God for such fitting pause, A chance to glimpse that face Once more ‘fore yielding to the claws Of hell’s outstretched embrace. Ah, don't know if I was like to put myself in the position of staring at something which caused such a diverse reaction. Still, I guess maybe just a quick look-see of hell to see what Charon sees on that blasted river. If they give you ruled paper write sideways. |

I saw her on the road today, Felt the emotions stir. A million things buried inside, All still tethered to her. How powerfully you describe this moment, dear Michael, when the vortex of emotion blurs our perception. Past events can keep us in their grip for a long time and yet I hope you will not surrender to the embrace of hell, but to the beauty of a new dawn that shows you new horizons to reach out to. Excellent write. Margherita |

Have had that experience several times, my friend and personally would rather it to having nothing at all, seeing only strangers everywhere I look. Love is love, whether it be a passion of the past that's move in separate directions, of the melding of the two in the present. If discounted, because it worked aganist our wishes - our loss is tremendous; if looked upon as a rite of passage, we can honor it, hold it, keep it warm in it's storage of memories, and it'll make us greater than we were. j. |
