They Keep Coming, Don't They?

I awoke one morning
realizing the waking up to a new day
was a present
without explanation
as soon as you opened your eyes
on a cool, sunny September day
everything is just the way it should be
and yet . . .
something seems to be on the tilt
as if the day is somehow not complete
it could have something
to do with
all the days of my seventy-five years
I mean
they came like clockwork
all those days for me
a thought . . .
I feel my body weakening
day by day
I have a balance problem
never mind my short term memory loss
could it be
that my days are deteriorating
even as I am
but I'm not ready; day
to leave the human race
today is Saturday
will there be a Sunday?
I find myself already beginning
to mentality
help Sunday to not be so slow
also mentality
I began to try and patch what problems
day might have
about the coming days
I need tomorrow
I'm not ready

just yet

Good for you! We are not ready yet either! If you stop and think of it like you could have met your maker many moons ago in a dark alley or courtesy of a jealous husband, you have put your years to good use. You have chosen to write and make peace with your past. If only more people would take the time to do what you have done, the world would be a better place. Keep on keeping on, it is more important than you think.
