Undermined

I sleep to dream, I wake to die;
The ambition bled from the eye.
I face the mirror, sleek and bold.
It tells me I am growing old.
I reach the window, placid—stale,
Painted shut and to no avail.
And so I close my eyes to dream,
One more day lost to new found theme.

Yet Time places demands on me,
As alarms ring sarcastically—
As those damned dreams, hazy at best,
Just tease my mind, and mock, and jest.
And so I walk to the front door,
(Glutton ever in search of more);
To face the world in zombie mode,
Hoping today I won’t implode.

It’s there I build my castles high
Enough to touch the forlorn sky.
It’s there I don my wings of steel,
As polished pledge to how I feel.
My star, just beyond outstretched palm;
It sings to me, tranquil and calm.
And so I leap at Fate’s design,
But for the gods to undermine...

…And so I flutter, so I fall.
My slip from grace witnessed by all.
…And so I greet my sacred ground,
…And so I scream but make no sound.
…And so, eyes opened, have to stare
At life given to disrepair.
The ambition bled from the eye,
It’s here I wake; it’s here I die.

You write of the inner turmoil and brutal battles we fight within.
I always feel so sad after reading you, nevertheless,  you write so well.

My heart weighs heavy, I wish I could ease your pain.

If I wasn't busy massaging away the chill bumps this gave me, I'd applaud! Simply fantastic!

I was just thinking about running in dreams and not getting anywhere... Your line about "..scream but make no sound" reminded me of that. Funny how often you echo the back of my mind.

...and still the courage and resolve to take the leap....despite knowing your fate ahead of time....is the trigger of each clockwork heart we raise before each precipice ...a slippery slope...indeed.
