There was a time I thought I knew what I should do.
I'd given it some thought and found out that as a man,
I had some planning to do.
The world seemed to spin on it's own even when I wasn't aware.
I seemed so small and insignificant,
even as a young man in my twenties.
How could I, just a human in all these masses of hummanity,
know what to do.
It never came to me even though I was coached
Rock-a-bye baby in the treetop sounded
beautiful when I was a child.
I didn't realize the meaning of,
"when the bough breaks the cradle will fall
down will come baby cradle and all."
AND, I still don't but I know
things haven't changed in some aspects.
So as a human and an imperfect one,
I'd like to give my heart and soul to someone needy.
I'd like to give them everything I have,
because I didn't have it in the beginning
If I could just rescue one someone
I would rescue myself from the God of self centeredness.
I'd like to kiss every baby in the world.
I'd like to create a pill that would give
my present mellowness to teens and babies.

However, I'm still working on being me
and accepting myself for who I am.
Yet, lately, I give everytime I have a chance
and yes, don't take this as being over righteous,
even Jesus said, "there's more happiness in giving than receiving"
He was RIGHT!
These cliches are helpful in expressing who I am.

I know love is an overworked expression
but it's the only answer to relieve those who don't receive it.

I arrived more or less where you are now in October, 2011, Eric, old buddy. It was then that my way of thinking changed. It took a while for me to truly understand the change, but when I did I heaved a huge metaphorical breath and have breathed easier and more caring than ever in my life. 'Bout darn time, wouldn't you say?

Nicely expressed, E.  And I have to agree, I am feeling more calm and content ( could be this aging thing) especially after realizing what is really important in life.

p.s. your words rescued me on many an occasion.

Maureen
Long time no communicate.
Sweet of you to say that about my words. I'm sure many other good friends helped too.
Take care and thanks for the visit from one mellowed out to another.
