Like Diamonds on Black Velvet

In jewel colors of eternity
my hidden soul still takes delight
by soaring into the night
to feel a childlike joy with urgency

Giggles erupt from us no longer young
running with sleeping bags held
into darkness we’re compelled
when the witching hour has already rung

The sky is clear at the awaited time
no clouds hide twinkling stars
or planets that shine bright like mars
as words flow from my muse to pen in rhyme

Lying on our backs as we gaze in awe
as yesteryear returns to mind
no more to creation blind
like diamonds on black velvet without flaw

They blaze before our eyes and then are gone
white lighting as they streak by
some glow brighter to the eye
then we sigh of loss with the coming of dawn

Beautifully constructed poetry for your first post here at PiP, and welcome to the Blue Room. Like children is this poem corralling memories and watching the night's sky for shooting stars and youthful playback within your thoughts.

startime 1955...I really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing...Paul

I love to watch the night sky on a stormy night myself as lightning lights up the sky as it entertains us with it's magical show.

O, Karen!!!!  Dear Karen ...
Well anyway you probably don't remember me ... I am Jaime,  friend of Midnitesun, who came to be with me for a while before she passed away.  Then I had to change my identity severaltimes and I am now "daddy goose 38."
Well anyway I have to lie down, But Daddy Goose sends you all his love and his goosey goosey heart!

In 3 simple words:
I LOVED THIS!
Well written and well portrayed took me away for a moment to childlike innocence.

Enjoyed the read, Startime.  Recapturing innocence is perhaps the key to a new world.

A gorgeous penning, dear Karen, and very much in harmony with your login name!

I find there are many wonderful poetic highlights in your poem, like:

quote:

In jewel colors of eternity

*

Giggles erupt from us no longer young

*

like diamonds on black velvet without flaw

*

then we sigh of loss with the coming of dawn

*

Brava!

Love,
Margherita
