Do you know the time of night,
just before the dawn,
when light of day has yet to touch,
upon a dew filled lawn?
No song of bird to yet awaken,
the bud of coming rose,
As creatures of the dark all pause,
in wait for night's repose?
Amid the calm of stillest hour,
a hush and nothing more,
A time when light of stars descend,
from their perch on heaven's floor,
And meld with rays of rising sun,
To light the light of perfect hour,
When day and night are one.

Aye, I know the time of night,
just before the dawn,
For I arose this very morn,
and gazed out on the lawn,
In the blush of a day to come,
and dark of night yet gone,
I spied a vision beneath yon tree,
a bright green leprechaun
He was dancin' an Irish jig,
'twas really quite the sight,
On a patch of fresh dug earth,
AHA! I'd catch the sprite,
And get myself a pot a' gold,
buried by a leprechaun,
Beneath the tree in my backyard,
Just before the break of dawn.
I got dressed and ran outside,
the leprechaun was gone,
But I still had his pot a' gold,
a buried in my lawn.
Down my knees, I dug a hole,
and much to my suprise,
I didn't find no pot a' gold
Instead, spied 'tater eyes.
I got up and went back to bed,
easy come as easy goes,
I plumb forgot 'tis St. Patrick's Day,
He was plantin' his potatoes.

Done planting my potatoes and enjoying a nice Saturday with Connie.

LOL! I enjoyed the poem... and the memories it brought. *S* My Dad ALWAYS planted potatoes... but he planted so early he was looking for cracks in the ground by St. Patrick's day! LOL
