Crimson Snow

She stood there in the clearing, a hush was all around
The purest snowflakes falling, to settle on the ground
And softly forward edging, she tread upon the snow
Some tall grass there still showing, near branches hanging low.

But other eyes were watching, wolf shadows 'neath the moon
For hungry cubs need feeding, this winters come too soon
And as she stooped to savour, her fur rose on her back
Grey shadows from the tree line, she knew they would attack.

The purest snow now crimson, the moonbeams can't erase
And still the snow is falling, life just a passing phase
And somewhere cubs are sleeping, so snug and warm this night
Somewhere a doe is weeping, her fawn had lost the fight.

The cruelty of nature, but life it must go on
For one a life is given, for one a life is won
Snow fall upon the branches, the footprints now have gone
And where the snow was crimson, no shadows where moon shone

Yep. I have always thought that the Creator, if there even is/was one leaned toward violence more than love. We all "love" Mother Nature," but damn, she is a cruel mother.

"The cruelty of nature, but life it must go on"

Indeed, it must, M
But I have learned that nature is not cruel,
It is indifferent, doesn't care if things are happy, or sad.
It lets all take their chances, and some will always lose.

I like this poem. enjoyed reading it, and what it said.

Michael,

Nature, in all of her forms
contains both the glory
and the reality
of life.

Well done, sir. A beautiful, if
heartwrenching read. You wrote it
very well.

Death for one means life for another... You've written that harsh reality so very well!
