The Seventh Hell

It's true the world never forgives
Words uttered without thought.
And still I laugh as such discord
Stems from what hell they've wrought.
Dream no more lives, cold winds have swirled
A tempest through my soul.
My lone reward, this crumbling half
Of all that made life whole.

I've spent my days channeling darkness
From inside of me.
Now faced with paying Charon's toll,
These coined eyes now see
I missed the mark and rode the haze
Unto the pits of hell...
And in that hole Time, stripped away,
Condemns me that I fell.

For hope I may not be granted,
And dream never obtain;
As I take in the wasted breaths
That line these walls, in vain.
Ne'er recanted, oh they display
That love is but a lie
That masks the deaths and absolves sin
Of fools who, for it, die.

Where in exile I've found the bliss
Of a realm that, once, mattered.
Spun off to my sickest desire
In webs that hold life shattered.
If for a kiss, an endless mile
I gladly undertake...
On through the fire, on through the lie
Of loving for love's sake.

It matters not all I have tried
To right what wrongs I've done.
The shadow has caught up finally—
For me, there's no more sun!
Though will has died, the vision sought
Lingers still, in my head...
Ever to be recompence as
I walk amongst you, dead.

The will may have died, Michael, and you know that better than anyone. Yet and still, as my grandfather used to say, there are times when we become caught up with life no matter how much we try to stay aloof with it. Don't be too surprised, buddy, if that old dead will comes roaring back to life when you least expect it to.

Thanks Jer.  Hope is the one one aspect of life that keeps showing up no matter how many times I try to off it.  You just inspired a little of it.
