Fools...
They sleep
lulled by a false
sense of security.
A memory of a time
that once was
but is no more.
They dream
their simple dreams
and do not hear
the monster
scratching at the door.
Nor do they recognize
the traitor
from within,
who has been
carefully chosen
to let him in.

That's just a little bit scary, dear Ida. We are fragile beings no doubt and the feeling of  "security" in our times seems indeed out of place or even foolish and yet I'd rather be judged foolish and dream my dreams, than being unable to enjoy life by constant apocalyptic fears of the "monster-aspects" of our time.

Of course we need all to wake up and become aware of the risks of our way of life and change for the better. We are in bad need of constructive awareness, that's true. We do have some extremely bad habits, don't we ...pollution, desertification, wars, religious fundamentalism, greed and well the list is long.   And the "traitor from within" lures ... no one is safe from getting tempted sadly.

So, as usual, your words are food for thought and well chosen to stir our consciousness.

Thank you.

Love,
Margherita

Nicely put Ida...those little whispers are quite annoying if you let them in.

Boy, Ida.  My mind is going all over the place with this one.  I love this kind of poetry ... makes me think and lets me add my own slant to what it means.

Thanks, dear one.

"A memory of a time

but is no more."

Lack of learning, common sense; love for God, family, country, and neighbor.
We have grown into a throwaway country.
1984 is here...

Continuing with the 1984 reference, I can picture Winston thinking these very words.  We certainly do live in increasingly interesting times.
