Moving On

You cannot change
that moment of the past
that haunts your memory.
Time has taken it away.
Longing will not bring it back,
regret will not erase it.
You can only tuck it away
in your safe place...
and move on.

well said, as always ! ...

however, some of us have nothing left to 'move on' to ... and/or no means of doing so.

To secondhanddreampoet,We move on because life goes on and we need to hold onto the memory but still get on with life the best way we can. There must be someone somewhere in your lif who could use your beautiful words or help in some other way.Been there  had to learn to live dispite the setbacks. Just an old lady  telling it like it is. jo

Thanks for this, I agree whole heartedly.  It is impossible to live in the past, the memories we made or sorrow we felt is what it is.
We can treasure them or set them free and as you said, move on already!!

Wise and brave words, Ida.  I can move on from most things, though many I treasure and take out the memories of them to bask in them and smile and cry about them from time to time, but my Flicka-horse, Tigger-cat and Daisy-dog, I can't, don't want to and won't move on from.  I need them and their daily cloud messages and my conversations with them every day, though Flicka has been in Heaven for 10½ years now, and Daisy for 3 years, and Tigger for 2 years.  As much as I love my new babies, Benji-dog and Cleo-cat to whom I have belonged for 2 years yesterday, I need Flicka, Tigger and Daisy too, and Benji and Cleo understand completely.  Without them all, I would be in a mental institution in a curly-jacket.  Smiles.  I enjoyed your poem.

I think of moving on as learning to deal with what you must rather than forgetting what will always be dear to you. That is what I meant by tucking it away in your safe place.

The absolute truth. There are way to many people living in the past. Life is to short to dwell on the past. Lock it up and throw it away...Loved  this
