THE SOLACE OF SUFFERING
21 October 2012

Sometimes,
in whatever form,
it freezes me solid
or ignites my panic,
but often,
it is great fun,
like playing McGiver
making things happen,
or Robinson Crusoe
rationing reserves,
and sometimes it simply dissipates
like mist in the sunshine
until the next time.

All things considered,
I rejoice in my suffering
though I have so much
less bullet to bite
than most,
and it has taught me so much
and fashioned my soul
and challenged my spirit
and motivated my actions
and birthed my compassion
and inspired my resilience
and enriched my thoughts
and enhanced my sensitivity
and taught me to fly
against the wind
and love its tingling embrace
of my face
and made me skylark-joyous about,
and quiver-grateful for,
my bountiful blessings
especially
the fragile, ethereal, littly ones.

It is those littly ones that save us sometimes, or at least let us get some sleep . . .

Thank you, Spiros, for your beautiful reply.  It is much appreciated.

Thank you, Krawdad.  For me, the littlest ones are the biggest.

Thank you, Ida, for your very kind words, and for feeling it so well.

bonjour diana, this is a very pertinent poem, we learn also from our sufferings, it seems to me that you know well resilience, it requires a lot of will to admit and do that, thanks for the writing and relevant thoughts,

"and taught me to fly
against the wind"

this has a special meaning for me...
wonderfully expressed, Diana

extremely well said, as always ...

especially: "birthed my compassion"

perhaps 'broken hearts' can sometimes grow back even larger ...
with far greater capacity for empathy, understanding, tolerance
(even celebration) of diversity of others ?!

Yes, there is solace found in suffering and for the little ones...and all the others, too...I would gladly share the pain...no pain...no gain.RV
