Riding The Greyhound - Calling On Me
(from Boyhood Tales)

Dawn . . .
caught me looking west,
backpack and camera
slung across my shoulder,
big grey dog idling to my left,
lobby full of lonesome,
crawling with souls,
to my right.
Sun hadn't broke the surface yet,
but yellow rays heralding its return
fanned across half the cloudless sky.
Most of the time
mornings like this
called to me,
tugged at my soul,
the yearning palpable.
But this morning -
this morning, only a hollow hole
centered in my chest,
said I had no where to go,
but grey dog had a seat saved,
and this town was worn out,
had nothing left,
for me.

Grey dog revved up,
twice,
shook its door,
and when I looked in
its driver smiled,
nodded towards the sun,
just surfacing . . .

Calling on me.

Calling on me.

Your boyhood tales never fail to move me... When you reach back in the past, you touch pieces of us all. *S* Excellent!!

I remember riding that "Big Grey Dog" a few times when I was a kid. You describe the feeling perfectly, Jimmy.
