he made it through puberty
grew into someone else
he's done his time
sans bars and with 'em
three wives
divorced two
buried all three
he has come to the end
not afraid of dying
not exactly
looking forward to it either
but not running from it
eh, just mumbling, walking along
hard to break old habits
with cane in hand
he walks the Thibodaux streets
mutt sniffing and stopping by his side
getting in his
timed half-hour measured walk

Ah, Karen, thank you, it has already been a long life, I have been very lucky in my life. Some people would take a look at my past and would scoff at my claim of being lucky, nevertheless . . .

No doubt, we all are on this Path that leads to  a "final door". We see it as an end, and it is, but I like to see it as a transition, to another level of existence.

Your gratitude for an intense life, with all of its challenges, comes through beautifully here.

Intensely personal Jerry Pat and deeply moving too,to be honest I find it almost harrowing.
But brilliant writing though.
All the best mate,

Appreciate it, N'oz, and I agree, the poem describes a somewhat harrowing time in my life, it all worked out to make me who I am. I can live with that. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I like your attitude, Jerry!
Excellent innermost view.

Ah, JL, what else can it be, this attitude? Gotta make peace with it all. Thanks, man.

JP, I always look forward to reading your poems.
You have lot more of living to do... and poetry to write, my friend!
