The kindling of sorrow

My pain hangs out among white clouds,
it dances in the sun and in the rain,
it moves through the crowds of busy streets,
it climbs to the heights of stars at night,
it plunges into the depth of moon kissed ponds.

Sometimes it silently hums
the sublime tunes
you stirred within my heart
and stammers the words of love
that fell from your lips.
Often it eludes me
as if it wanted to spare me.

But there is that secret place,
a room without walls,
yet so precisely defined
by the volume of sighs
and by the tears’ growing size.
Tears like pearls of sorrow
that adorn my life,
dewdrops at dawn,
still reflecting your smile
for a brief moment in time.

There I lean into the emptiness
stretching to the breaking point,
till I wish I could be but a leave
among thousands of leaves,
whispering my story
through the breeze,
kindling my sorrow,
just to know
and feel once again
the depth of this bond
that blooms like flowers out of season ...

flowers of sorrow
that grow in gardens without fences
and spread their fragrance
in rooms without walls.

You really outdid yourself with this beauty, Margherita.

"a room without walls,
yet so precisely defined
by the volume of sighs"

Doesn't get better than those three lines.

Margherita,

This is stunningly beautiful. I would want to receive this from a friend for any day that was shadowed in despair and loneliness, or the deepest of sorrow at the death of a beloved. You were touched by Grace when you penned this.

Oh, dear Margherita, this is an absolutely stunning write!  So many good lines and so many that I can relate to.  What is this thing called "life" that can cause the "kindling of sorrow" that you have so wonderfully described and yet on the other hand offer so many blessings?

My best to you.
Love
Helen

Dear Jerry, thank you so much for your generous loving comment. I am glad you enjoyed my words.

It’s nice to see you visit Pip again, dear JL, and I thank you for stopping by and for enjoying my poem.

Dear Karilea, thank you from my heart for your loving comment. Yes, there is this sorrow that builds for many different reasons and accompanies us throughout life. It doesn’t keep us from loving life, but it reminds us of the impermanence of our sojourn and of our heart emotions. To make love last beyond human limits, that’s the challenge.

Yes, dear Helen, even our consciousness of all the blessings that shower us can’t heal us permanently from the “pain of living”, the sorrow for what we experience as loss or as injustice. You have got that right. Thank you for your loving comment.

Thank you so much, dear Karen, for feeling these emotions together with me. I enjoyed your comment.

It’s a joy to have you peek in here, dear D. Thank you. I love the vision of the sky as a screen for our soul talk. It offers infinite space forever renewable …

Thank you kindly, dear Ruth, for telling me your heart felt these words. That is deeply gratifying.

Dear Eric, thank you for being here and close to my heart always. You are the blessing I will forever be grateful for. With you I have learned the ways to transcend earthly limitations … such as the pain and sorrow I am speaking about here.

Love to all,
Margherita
