As the temperature rises I know it is time
to revel again in anticipation
and how soothing it is to again project
all dreams into the everyday.

Perhaps it is fruitless some would say
for history attests to no dreams today
but, oh, when the birds sing strident and clear
I can’t help but picture you here.

But the picture is hazy for now I see
light blue from the chocolate brown
and I find there’s a subtle but definite twist
in my long held belief in the truth.

But mind, my mind, embedded in life
has succumbed to the strange and bizarre
and covers the heart with its reasoning
in attempts to still the beat.

And quietly I sit in anticipatory mode
listening with fine-tuned heart ears
and I know the beat’s deep, deep, down
too weak now to rise from the covers.

How sad when mind steps in to conduct
the music of heart’s true rhythm
to make of the calm and harmonic
a blaring and off-key cacophony!

Sad is the correct word, Helen. We can't control how the mind plays out things, things we don't like to deal with.

The heart and the mind never make good partners.  A metal on metal grating train wreck is more like it.  Lucky for me my heart pays no attention whatsoever to my mind...  Nope, life is all roses and sweet music to my ears.     really it is.

Enjoyed.

Awww, the ache of knowing and still questioning the hope and anticipation of love.

It's dicey alright, often without a means to an end, or beginning if you will.

So good to find you still hear, Lady Sunday~

Thank you, poet friends, for your comments.

Bluesy!  What a pleasant surprise!

Such contrast here.  You are a crafty writer, Helen.
I think almost all can find this write an inconvenient truth...

You amaze this reader to full enjoyment!
Love the read.

What a wonderful poem! *S* Anticipation makes us vulnerable to disappointment... but it also presents the opportunity to soar. And you're right... the only way we know the ending is to not allow the beginning... but then we're only existing, not really living.

Wishing you the anticipation AND delivery of great joy! *S*
