     Maestro
┬┬┬   ┬┬┬   ┬┬┬

Life’s foray sanctions
my every thought of you.
Should I be as a clavichord
absorbed into metrical play,
reverberating against a host of brass strings,
in a fanfare of melodic tune?

Or should I be that breath of tympani,
understood silently, to gently stay?

What genius thought
should pass through my mind
a concerto “Una vita di canzone”
or, reflective passages from
Leopold's best-selling treatise?
Which keyed fret or
tensioned reed will sustain
those hearty notes I should play?

Or,
Should I exit stage right,
or stage left,
or render inoperative
in stage fright?
Or shall I be center stage,
become a prop, a perforated stand
and be happily content stay?

Choices appear to be old wine –
turned to vinegar-varnish
over all this time;

So,
With my bow in hand
Stradivarius tucked beneath my chin
I fake in “Meditation from Thaïs” by Albert Stern,

and meticulously continue
to pretend…

Truly emotionally filled poetry cannot be faked.  It is as sweetly moving as Pachelbel's Canon in D.

Or should I be that breath of tympani,
understood silently, to gently stay?

I remember when I fell in love with the sound of the tympani... and still fall silent every time I hear it, just to enjoy. *S*

A beautiful word symphony you've written!

I can certainly relate to the "pretending" part... Stems from years of never figuring out who I really was or what I wanted... So I ended up playing many tunes, trying to please others.  Good write... Glad you reposted it.

My dear friend,

there is no way to hide greatness,
for talent shines, one way or the other.

I will be gone for a few days beginning Thursday...

write me some poems to come home to,
will you?
