An Inconvenient Truth

Love is sadness in disguise
the touch that makes us porous
we bargain souls at first kiss.
But to careful lips
who have slept past the dreams
and the infamous shadows
that lurk beneath the vows
and the roses
suspiciously proverbial
we taste the wolf in sheepskin.

It is felicity, futility
flaunting every temptation
rescinding all liability
seething salt on the sultry flames
of a parody devil.

It is necessity, agony
the grandiose facade
of Camelot, Elysium
the dichotomy of
the first bite of the apple.

We worship the fairytale
assume that butterflies
never fly away
from our wanton hand;
We speak of love
as if the dead care for flowers
placed on their graves.

We think love will save us
warm us
enrichen us
yet, we must remember
that the road to heaven
is also the gate to hell.

That is a very interesting statement
Melissa but also very true. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, take care.

Thank you JamesMichael and Lindsay

I've written many soulmate love poems, I'm a hopeful romantic afterall but now I'm writing about the darker side of love.

I for one enjoy you writing about the darker side of love. That is right up my alley. As much as I love to write about it, real love, perfect love is ever elusive, just out of reach and the key is to enjoy the darker twists of love that is there for the taking.
Much enjoyed and looking forward to more.
