First, it might be best
he does not know what you are doing,
what you are thinking ... and planning ...
for he has learned enough and lived enough to know
that talk is cheap, that almost anyone
can buy the gifts and learn to say the words;
Can learn to cry and when to smile on cue,
and how sweetly friendship can be faked.
And you must love him to begin.
Don't wait to say you care until the end,
else he simply won't believe you.
phone him first;
More than once or twice, but not too many times,
just enough to tell him you are different,
just enough to show him that you care.
And when you ask him how he is, then you must mean it.
Don’t ask him as a way to make him talk.
And when you ask him what he likes, do it directly;
Don’t ask somebody else what does he want.
and should he be uncertain, take his hand,
handle him with kind and gentle patience,
and he will reward you by telling you the truth,
and he will come to love you all the more;
and to you alone will he share the treasures of his heart,
and you will have his confidence for LIFE!
When you know that he is out,
show up at his favorite haunts,
a place where he least expects to see you.
Travel as he does, on foot
and bring your friends to meet him too,
and let him hear you tell
how you adore him;
Don’t tell them to just flatter him,
but because it is the God and honest truth.
And when you are at table, wait on him,
discreetly, so he doesn’t know that you are doing it.
Not because he can’t do things by himself,
But because each of us wants to know that we are special,
that we are noticed, cared about, and loved.

notice what he likes before he thinks you do.
keep his plate and glasses full before he asks,
so he will know you also want to fill his heart.
Indulge him, quietly,
so no one else need know.
just he, and you.
Tell him how you love to watch
his face in fascination--
the ever-changing panorama of his moods, that flicker there,
the roiling, beating passions of his heart, that mirror there.
Tell him how you love to hear the rhythm of his voice,
the cadence of his words,
killing you softly with his song,
telling your whole life with his words.
Tell him how he makes you cry, the way he makes you think, and smile, and laugh,
the way he lets you see
all the color, light and music
filling and resounding in his soul.
But only if you really, truly mean it.
And do not rearrange your schedule and your world for him.
don't try to reorder his own;
for he has had enough of people doing that.
Do not bend over backwards just to please him,
for he will know that you are doing it,
see that you are faking it.
For if he thinks you are not telling him the truth,
you will never see the inside of his house again.
It is better to be direct, FORWARD and true.
It is better to be genuine and real,
then he will take you in his arms and hold you to his heart,
and he will never, ever leave you.
Remember not to get too close too soon;
he may be wary and suspect that you are phony.
Don't be discouraged if he says he doesn't want to get involved.
He just doesn’t wanted to be exploited.
because he really wants your friendship, and for LIFE!
Even if, at first, he won’t admit it.
You know more of what is in his heart
than he, at first, may think you do.
For in this one unguarded poemlit he has told you.
So write him, for he already knows that you are there.
He can see you staring at your monitor.
He knows that you are sitting in your chair.
For who among us does not long and yearn
For absolutely honesty, passion,  and an abiding love?

Well, okay … the truth.
Even though this is written the third person,
This is really about myself …
I hope you won’t laugh at me.  But if you do,
I’ll just turn off my hearing aids and go on …

Jaime,

I think this is my favorite poem that you have shared with us.  It's about you and what you want - and you write of how we can (and should) treat others.  No one likes false emotions or for people do what they think they should do.  I want people to reach out to me because they want to.

This is an honest look into you - and your heart.  I know that you give as much as you ask for - and it's hard to put yourself on the line as you did in this piece of writing.

Thank you, my friend ~
for sharing these pieces and parts of you.

Alison

Really enjoyed this thoughtful piece of writing. Not just saying it to gain your friendship.I do not even know you so ....

It is how we feel about flowers. Send them now and do not wait until we are in a casket.We would not see them then.. We can go on and on.. .latearrival.

Thank you, Ali.  Your comment means a lot to me.  I did hesitate at first to post such a personal thing but you assure me it is okay to reveal.
Ali, I feel close to you in spirit, and find so much comfort in a couple of your poems yesterday in the archives, especially one in particular ...
Hope we can talk on “here” soon, even if it is just quietly with you.  GN and take care okay Ali???
Ever had chocolate ice cream with more chocolate ice cream?
Tender hugs and GN kissis.
