... Missing You ...

Dear Kacy,

It’s a quiet Saturday morning
-too early-
and I should be sleeping in.
But, instead, I am gazing
out the window, thinking of you.

It’s a cup of tea kind of morning
The dog has stopped playing tag
with the cat (under the tolerant eyes
of their sister and brothers
~ also dogs and cats).

And me?

Well, I am sitting here thinking of you
as I gaze out the window, sip my tea
and look at the ugly spring
time of year – tree limbs stark
over deflated humps of grimy snow.

I have been searching for the aurora,
but I can’t see it this year
(not yet anyway).
And I have been looking for the stars,
but I can’t see them either.
I want to see you in both.
I wonder about you now –
where you are; what you are doing.
And I miss you and marvel at that too.

We knew each other, but didn’t.
We never talked on the phone
or wrote many emails.
We never stepped much over the lines
of poetry and a shared love of home.

But still, I miss you.

I miss you as a friend misses a friend.
I miss you as an Alaskan misses an Alaskan.
I miss you as a poet misses a poet.

I just miss you.

Love,
Alison

So many words, so many different possibilities of arrangement, make it most difficult to piece the right ones together during these harshest times of our winter.

I have been searching myself for a way to express my feelings about our dear Kacy, ever since I came back here recently, and heard this saddest of news myself.

Its going to take me a bit longer, I haven’t even come to terms with it, that she no longer
will be here to share her most wonderful sensitivity, about life, and people, and, occasion.

Dear Ali, you really did find the right words, in that big scrabble box of possibility, you really did.

These words were honest thoughts, and caring sentiments, heavy in their meaning and sadness, straight from your heart.

Yes dear friend, I’m sure Kacy is pouring a nice cup of hot tea right now, reading this poem, and all the others, remembering, and smiling, for all that she received in life, and for all, that she gave, saying, Thank you Ali, thank you my friends, I have a part of all of you with me, here forever.

She brought a lot of things to many people.
Have you sent this to her daughter? I think
it would please her very much to know how
much her mother meant to PiP members.

Karilea,

Thank you, my friend.  No, I just wrote this and I don't know who to send it to.  If anyone does, please feel free to send it on.

Oh and Karilea?  I wrote something to Kacy a year or so ago and it is here

in prose.  Feel free to pass it on also - Kacy responded.  Her daughter may like that.

Alison, you have said it for all of us  who lack the words to express our feelings. Kacy was a special person and we all reconized that in her. Because she was so special she will be  always here in our hearts.   Thank you for this. Jo

Alison, I can hardly type for the sobs nor see what I am typing for the tears.  "This is beautiful" is such a limiting understatement, but I can't even find the words to replace them, let alone am I ready to write my Kacy poem yet.

I will send your exquisite poem and your beautiful piece of prose (I see it was actually 2 years ago in February) to Sara, but tomorrow, unless I know of somebody else who does so before then.

Kacy is even in the “tree limbs stark/ over deflated humps of grimy snow” and if you look again closely with Kacy eyes, you will see her and the beauty of them in them.  She is in the ether around all of us.

Yes, it is so true that we were and are very close to dear Kacy, even without having been close in traditional ways ... phone etc.. Kacy's essence permeated us from a distance through her words and her personality, through her soul.

Very touching write, dear Alison!

Love and hugs.

My friends,

Thank you.  I feel a bit of a hole when I think of Kacy.  She touched me on so many levels, as I know she did you.  One thing I realized as I read your responses is I feel the same way about each of you.  There is a family here - and we share a lot with each other.

With love,
Alison

Alison,

I am very touched by your thoughts of Kacy.  I had hoped to meet her, and was so pleased when she was close enough that it seemed possible, but it didn't happen.  I still don't have the right words.  I think about her, too... ~Karen
