I woke up this morning, the 13th day
without you beside me, in another state.
It gets harder each time you go away,
every passing night, it's sad to wait.

I buy little black dresses and fancy things
while you drive from Pennsylvania to Omaha,
back up to New York with the lonely it brings,
and all my shopping just rubs me raw.

And I think to myself, this is not us,
this is not who we are, what we should be,
you should dump the truck and get on a bus
and get yourself back home to me.

The money is okay and it pays the bills,
but I want a husband home every night,
there is an emptiness that nothing fills.
This is not who we are. This is not right.

Yo dear Passing shadows,

Having money is great.  It keeps you fed and stuff.  It's no fun at all if you don't have money.

Love Bobby

Fine writing...you can imagine how the spouse's feel that are married to a soldier in Iraq or Afganistan...there's a movie out now on this subject...they were to be married until he reenlisted on Sept.11...the movie is "Dear John"...James

Bobby, money is the root of evil. You and Bones know that. When Bones finds true love, his perspective will change drastically. And I do hope he finds true love, deeply in my heart.

James, things need to change for everyone, family should be the core value of all.Forget war, and money and every other superficial crap that is thrown at us...

You can feel the loneliness and the sadness here, wondering why things must be as they are.
But happiness is in our own hands I believe.
Well done.

Don't know the whole story but I have read you a long time and I do know that lonliness comes in degrees, my friend, all fraught with missing someone/something.

Emptiness, on the other hand, is total absence . . .no one/nothing to look forward to.

Sometimes, because of circumstances, one has to accept a certain amount of the former to avoid the latter, blue as the heart may beat.

It's always better to beat as a duet, with miles and hours between, rather than singly,
with nothing but space between beats.

I wish you nothing but duets...hang in there...

Oh Dixie, you know what, I just love.
How I miss staying up late and reading all of your poems. Sometimes it seemed like you and I were the only two people left awake in the whole world. I hope you and your man find some common ground. You truly deserve to be happy.

Dixie
I love this song of your heart
I feel the miss of your love
sing it louder my friend
it's beautifully haunting

Dixie,

Your life poems never fail to touch me on some level.  Your poetry always teaches me a little bit more about you - and I love that.

You are a gift.

Awwww Dixie, my dad was a truck driver for as far back as I can remember. Mom was happy when he was out on the road. He is retired now and they can't even be in the same room together. LOL!
