I'm lost in the story of how it would be
if the flames of passion rose internally
and crept ever closer, nearer, and in
that place where soul lies comatose.

Would it awake frightened and run
like one terrified of murder, mayhem,
or arise as a maiden groomed ready to be
escorted down isles of ecstasy?

But passion must first get past the door
where I stand on guard perhaps morbidly
lighting candles and incense morn to midnight
as if passion a demon of evil intent.

Passion can kill, maim, and destroy
the tiredness, fatigue, and weariness,
and then of soul I know it would be
an enemy of my settled state.

It comes bearing pleas, arguments, more,
but I will not, not ever, not ere,
move from the door till passion bears love
gift wrapped and addressed to the soul.

And the soul today still lies comatose!

oh how my heart aches for you...There is some saying about loving as if you have never been hurt before. Life comes with no guarantees, just opportunities.

Thanks, Lori.  What you say is true so until whenever passion bears love the soul remains comatose but, you know, even guards get time off to revel in 'whatever'.

To be careful is a good thing
You never know what the wind brings
But if you never take a chance
A sad waltz will be your last dance

Loved your poetry / Just trying to checkmate it if possible.

I only take a chance on a sure thing.  How do I know it's a sure thing?  Well, if the soul awakes and doesn't run then a woman is sure to know.

Thanks for the read.

No doubt that passion is a two-edged sword. One must be careful as to how it is presented. As always, a beautiful, powerful, and emotional read. Thank you for sharing. May your heart find it's passion.

Helen, this is not a dress rehearsal. You only go around one time. You owe it to yourself to make the most of it. You don't want your last words to be, "I wish I had....".

Helen

I know the hurt and I know the gaurd up feeling. It's almost impossible to get past that gaurd but it will happen some day and you'll love every minute of it all as you become fresh and new with a different slant on life.

Love this writing...
"but I will not, not ever, not ere,
move from the door till passion bears love
gift wrapped and addressed to the soul."

You got it, and it'll happen to you....
If in fact this really is about you which I believe it is judging from your other writings.

Take care

Eric

Thanks everyone for your comments.  They are one and all most greatly appreciated.  I can only write what I know and feel so, yes, it is in a sense about me but sometimes I'm left wondering - is it me or am I just "sensing"?  Either way, I do hope my stories can find a place in hearts and minds.

Love

Interesting that Helen just posted this on facebook..

Dear Helen,

You write so emotionally, sometimes there is a sense of uderlying defeat and overwhelming sadness, other times your poetry is powerful in it's presentation and context.  But still my heart weeps for you, I can't help it, us women are sensitive sorts but first we are individuals in our own right, the events that shape our lives are personal.  As a poet we are passionate, and you are all that. I pray that love will find it's way, and that you dare to believe in it and cease the moments so it doesn't pass you by.  You don't need me to tell you life is a precious gift, and speaking from experience, we live out our days and care for it the only way we know how....this I know.

Many many hugs to you,  Lady Sunday~

The context of this poem itself has a seemingly dream like quality.
Don Quixote chased windmills, and only
referring to my own experience,that
can sometimes be our fears.
Sometimes things we fear
do happen however,and
thus,trepidation
is warranted.

Well done, and well wishes.

Thank you, Balladeer - Wise words indeed.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained but sometimes the venturing needs to be tempered according to reality.  It's a pity really.

Bluesy - thank you, sweet one.  We women ride a roller coaster.  It takes a while to find our feet again but I write of the moments of life as and when they happen in the full knowledge that the one constant in life is change.

Novus_Os - Thank you.  It's just a question of balance I suppose.

The soul ... comatose? No way, dearest Helen! It's just your perception of it, but I do strongly believe that the soul is always in top form and part of what we are and of what we do, but our mind can play tricks and alter our perception of the alignment to our divine essence.

Great work as usual from you, introspective Poetess.

Love,
Margherita

Hi, Margherita.  You are, of course, right.  Sometimes the soul leads where we don't want to go and makes us be what we don't want to be.  I reckon it sleeps sometimes to gather its strength before the next burst of energy that propels and transforms in spite of resistance.  Oh, and being an obedient servant I just write what it tells me to. Perhaps it's just a dance between the two of us - yes, the dance of love!

A dance of musing---that is how we are composed these days.

A lovely poem you have written here. "Once bitten, twice shy" is sadness, but so many people have been ill-trained these days and cannot be trusted to not do unjust harm, that it is sometimes hard to get around it.

Thanks, easy1.  "Unjust harm" - I witness so much of that these days and it's painful for me to know that I can't fix it. To try is to sometimes end up the bad guy so all that happens is that I feel it.

May you have a happy festive season.

Helen
