A chicken came to call
but decided on next door
and mingles now its voice
with that of traffic noise.

It's louder and more piercing
and directs my attention
to the more meaningful
like an angel sent to reinstate
long lost emotive love.

It has no shelter overhead
or place of safe retreat
because like love it must not hide
from the element, surprise.

So love's a chicken, see,
in the heat of fear
until the dark and lonely nights
herald in anguish.

But it's out there day and night
pleading with the ether
while seeking sustenance
from life's meagre offerings.

I'm glad it lives next door
because too close and I'm appalled
at the trials and tribulations
decreed to always be
before we have it all!

Helen

Yep you got it just right.
Reminds me of Billy Joel's 'Innocent Man' song.

No kidding, trials and tribulations but the overview is so confusing isn't it.
No wonder a person stays gaurded after a serious hurt. Yet, the heart of the gaurded one is still yearning for love.

Complicated flecks of dust us humans.

Loved it Helen simply loved it!

Thank you, Eric.  I'm so glad you liked the "story".  It's based on fact, you know.  A chicken really did materialize out of nowhere.

ebm -   Thanks.  I just write what comes to me ... out of nowhere.

Eric - as they say in the classics, "You did good".  I just love it when people "analyze" correctly.  Thank you.

Amaryllis - Thanks.  What about a chicken poem challenge?

JerryPat - I'm sorry, I missed your comment.  No, not much to admire but therein lies the challenge.

Dixie - Thanks and, yes, it can be anything that passes by one's awareness.
