Not Trying For Love

I'm not trying for love anymore.
Because when I try things go wrong, things go awry.
I’ve done it to many damn times before so now I’m not going to try.
Trying means texting too many times, putting on too much cologne, making bad jokes, and comparing astrology signs.
(Gags)… excuse me I just threw up in my mouth.
No but seriously if you pull that crap your chances of success start at zero and quickly go south.
You can’t force it and you can’t plan it out.
I know at times we all want it, need it, and ache for it so bad we could shout.
Still, I’m no expert, but I do know trying is not what love is about.
So if someone tugs your heart stings don’t turn around and use them to tie them down.
Leave the boom box blaring Michael Bolton at home.
Don’t rip off romantic comedy lines and wonder why you’re alone.
Let you be you and them be them and leave it to circumstance.
And maybe then you’ll find something better than cellophane romance.
Save all the trying for when you are in love.
That’s when you should try like mad because that’s when you will need it.
Trying isn’t how you find love but it’s what you’ll need to keep it.
I’m not trying for love anymore.

Excellent advice for the clueless out there. The courtship (is that word even used these days?) part of getting together is all about each of you putting your best foot forward. Which is wrong. You are already attracted to each other and trying to make out that you are this 100% perfect person will doom the relationship. As far as love is concerned either you are or you aren't, you can fake it or you are doomed again. In other words, Donovan, I agree with your synopsis of love big time.
