Suzhou bicycles
of October morning light...
slim Suzhou riders.

To have been in China in October 1988, before the Tian An Men massacres, was to know a hope of freedom coming. Smiles were everywhere. The Iron Curtain in Europe had just come down, and political freedoms were being discussed openly. Foreign investment in China was obviously increasing. It was hoped that a new golden age had begun.

There is indeed an idea of freedom in your haiku, beautifully expressed.

Just learned that Venice is a twin city of Suzhou.
