It’s time again to join as one to celebrate this day
The freedom and the things we have; our great Australian way

We’re here to thank our founders and families for our luck
For all the things we love today and all the gold we’ve struck

We’re in a place that’s filled with peace and people who do care
We’re in a country beauty filled with freshness in the air

We’ve got the right to sound our voice to say what we believe
And though at times things may seem tough, more often we receive

This country’s young with people proud, diverse in cultured way
A country giving just reward for things we give each day

We’re given choice to take a chance, to go for goals that we might dream
To be the best that we can be, to work together as a team

This land is one that reaches far, protected by its shore and sea
A land where spirits chant a call that keeps us safe and keeps us free

It is the place that we call home, what better place could people live?
Here comfortable among our friends and in a land of ever give

This day is given to reflect on past, the present and beyond
To just enjoy your life and friends, to love this country and its bond

To remember that we’re lucky, to not have wars at home
While knowing we have allies and never stand alone

So charge up all ya glasses, enjoy ya snags on bread
All join and laugh together and ponder what’s ahead

Embrace Australia’s symbol and fly her flag with pride
We’re Australian; what an honour, to have her by our side

Happy Australia Day, Rick.  I love reading your poetry and how you share your pride of your country.  I hope to visit your land someday.  It sounds as special as the people who live there.

Hugs to you and our fellow PiP Australians.

Love,
Alison

Happy Austrailia Day, Rick!

One of my regrets is that I've never seen your wonderful country. Any land that produces Banjo Paterson is tops in my book! I've read about it, studied it and even wrote poems about it, as I prayed to my Greg Norman statue before going to sleep at night!

Here's a tribute to the land down under.. /main/forumdisplay.cgi?action=displayarchive&number=33&topic=002358

Enjoy your day, Rick, and your luck for living in such a wonderful place.

Rick,

For a land's opportunity that gave more than it ever received in the beginning, all I can say is, God Bless.

I know a bit of the country's history, but someday I hope you and Lindsay can spend time in present company and introduce me to so much more!

Always a pure joy to read your art.

I have always wanted to visit Austrailia. I can tell it must be a wonderful place by the pride her people take in being Austrailian. Hope you had a happy day, Rick.

Dear Ida, I had a wonderful day, I read out my poem and mingled with the people who attended, then home for the rest of the day off, life can be so great where ever we are. Thank you for your reply my friend

I may have missed Australia Day and my Aussie friends would have loved to razz me but your love for your country is more than evident to this Yank.

I like this.
I asked a friend in school to bring me a rock from Australia, but in the chaos of the years and moving from place to place it got lost.
So now you send us this Australia poem?
Is the planet getting smaller and smaller?

Hi Rick, top accolades for this wonderful poem my friend, it was an absolute pleasure

to read. I was away in respite when you submitted this poem, hence the fact that I'm only responding now. See you next Sunday
