Bio-Write

I want to take biology again
Where I learned of
Stamens, petals, anthers
Pistils, leaves and more...
And reproduction – at which
The boys tittered, being boys
Outnumbered in ratio
By girls, four to one.

It was summer
The class eight weeks long
Four hours a day.
It was a good time
Immersing myself in microscopes
Petri dishes and crystallization.

It was a time to either give in
Or conquer my fear of needles
As hapless chicks
Awaited placebo pinpricks
Or hormonal injections. Study groups.
Control groups. Boys tittering.

Frogs to dissect, though mine jerked;
A cow’s eye that gave up its sight
Like a crystal ball, that we might
See into our futures.

Biology blessed me with
The art of looking past
The picture now in front of me
Requiring a more in-depth analysis of now;
But then, the needles pointedly pricked
My failures into some shaken nerve
Crushing any dream of veterinarian lifestyle
Cleanly, down the laboratory sink.

I see flowers differently now
And admire the bee’s endeavors,
Remembering.

Beautiful.. and so impressive for a 15 min. write! I love your take on the photo insiration.. instead of love or romance, you truly `saw` the flower... wonderful.
.
Biology was also one of my favorite subjects!  I still enjoy it.

Well done...
my question to you would be, what as you look at this with fresh eyes might you reconsider or change?
Nothing is an acceptable answer by the way..LOL
I simply find it interesting at times since so much of what I write is written in short time frames..to go back and see it with fresh eyes and see if it would change if written again or if it spawns other thoughts...

truly, well done... unique in the perspective of coming from a single image and taking it along lines not common... which to me, is truly a mark of artistry and of a true poet.

Much enjoyed, Karilea.  I could never have been a vet in 10 million years, but I am so grateful that there are those who can be.

To explore nature's mysteries is one of the greatest pleasures no doubt.

My mother once gave me a book "How the flowers love" ... absolutely fascinating ... your most beautiful write, dear Karilea, brought this memory back for me.

Love,
Margherita

don't you love those words
"Stamens, petals, anthers
Pistils"
I had beautiful vegetable plants this year
and no bees
no pollinators
I tried to pollinate with a tiny paint brush to no avail
now I have a new found respect for the bee

this is lovely Karilea

Biology was never my thing MommaK but reading you, now that is entirely a different subject.

Kat...I so wanted to be a Veterinarian...and our vet said, "take biology..." and it indeed made clear that I didn't have the trappings...but it made for some unique memories. Thank you.

Amaryllis...15 minutes was the trapping zone...STOP...I think I was done in 10.

My friend CH...your question...is it for the time that was, or the time of the poem's prop? If I were to answer in the past's past, I might come up with a whole slew of new poems...and if I were to answer for the other night alone...maybe a different poem or two.

But your second paragraph, Sir, coming from a poet by whom I give great regard, is immediately and substantially refreshing, and well received. Thank you.

Bel1e...I can visualize that through your writing. In fact, you've recently spawned a few poems in my brain based upon this response alone that I would attribute to your self.

Diane...thank you...I truly wanted to become a doctor of animals...those damn needles...!

Thank you, dreampoet.

Margherita...interesting on how the poem is being viewed. I appreciate your sharing...and of your sharing similar memories.

Martie/Sis...So many, many doors... ...with more to open, of course!

Kate...

Yes, I did love those words...and smiled at the thought of your paint brush lingering on life and need...don't you see the picture unfolding for your own memories? I do!

Daughter...bio, was, at least one time your thing...I mean, after all....April!
